Assessment is an ongoing process: referral. Assessment process begins with a referral: teacher, parent, psychiatrist, judge, ect. What in uences how the clinical will address the referral questions : psychodynamic clinician may ask about early childhood experiences than a behavioural clinician would. The information may be similar but different inferences will come of it. Assessment isn"t a completely standardized set of procedures: interview. Assessment interview is the most basic and the most serviceable technique used by clinical psychologists. Wide range of application and adaptability make it a major instrument for clinical decision making, understanding, and prediction. At least 2 people , each contributes to the process and each in uence each others response. A clinical interview is initiated with a goal or set of goals in mind. The interviewer approaches the interaction purposefully, bearing the responsibility for keeping the interview on track and moving toward the goal.
