Document Summary
Genital self-image can be defined as our attitudes and feelings about our genitals. Research has shown that although on average the genital self-image of most people is positive, some people see their own genitals quite negatively. Peoples feelings about their genitals may be affected by whether they perceive that their genitals fit with general cultural norms, their sexual experiences, and medical conditions. Researchers have found that women with a more negative genital self-image are more self-conscious during sexual activity and report lower self-esteem and sexual satisfaction, as well as more sexual problems. Canadian men are undergoing penis enlargement surgery because they believe (often incorrectly) that their partners would be more satisfied if they had a larger penis. There is no evidence that this kind of surgery results in sexual enhancement or that these procedures are safe.
