Document Summary

In north america we pay less attention to hearing loss then any other medical condition. Hearing is critical for learning so this imposes a huge threat for children. Babies who are hearing impaired are isolated from the human voice and can not acquire language and speech. The current emphasis is on integration programs, student placements and general class participation. Designed to collect sound, process and transmit it. Hearing impairments are interference with any part of the ear"s transmission system. May take the form of the range of frequencies, distortions, or failure to perceive sound. External canal (metus)- runs from the pinna to the eardrum. Tympanic membrane(eardrum)- tough stretched tissue that separates the outer from the middle. Holds 3 small bones: malleus, incus and stapes. When sound hits it moves the bones and it amplifies 22 times and protects the inner ear from loud noise. Two muscles: one joined to the stapes and other to the eardrum.
