History of autism: brought to our attention by leo kanner (1943), a psychiatrist at johns hopkins. He found three characteristics that were always present in children with autism, but only occasionally in children with emotional disorders: (1) failure to develop social relationships (2) language retardation with impaired comprehension (3) ritualistic or compulsive behaviours. Its symptoms resemble autism: progressive neurological disorder in which individuals reveal a loss of muscle functions, hand flapping and autistic behaviour, appear 6-18 months, educational treatment is similar to treatment for autism.
