Used to be thought of as a brain injury or minimal brain dysfunction. Students with unexplained underachievement at school with no underlying neurologically based problem are also now categorized as having a learning disability. Twice-exceptional (2e): high iq but severe difficulties in some areas such as spelling or writing. Dyslexia: severe difficulties with reading, spelling, and writing. Sometimes have difficulties in language development, reading, writing, math, social and emotional interpretations, gross and fine motor skills. A disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes involved in understanding or in using language, spoken or written, which may manifest itself in the imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, write, spell, or do math. Includes perceptual disabilities, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia, and developmental aphasia. Does not include visual, hearing, or motor disabilities, mental retardation, emotional disturbance, or cultural/economical disadvantages. Evidence-based interventions: as one part of a comprehensive evaluation of students" needs.
