Document Summary
Habituation: gradual decline in intensity, frequency, or duration of a response to the repeated occurrence of a stimulus. Recovery from habituation (dishabituation): renewed response to a change in a stimulus. Indicates that the baby perceives the new stimulus as different from the old one. Lbw, brain-damaged, and younger babies habituate less rapidly. Classical conditioning: a neutral event paired with a stimulus that triggers an inborn reaction can begin to elicit a response like the one initiated by the original stimulus. Unconditioned stimulus (ucs): stimulus that elicits a reflex-like response without prior conditioning. Unconditioned response (ucr): response that"s automatically elicited by the ucs. Conditioned stimulus (cs): neutral stimulus that begins to elicit a response after it"s been paired with the ucs. Conditioned response (cr): learned response to a previously neutral stimulus as a result of pairing the cs with the ucs. Operant conditioning: frequency of spontaneous behaviours changes as a result of positive and negative consequences.
