Moral development: involves changes in thoughts, feelings, and behaviours based on standards on right and wrong. Intrapersonal dimension -> regulates person"s activity based on engagement in social interactions. Interpersonal dimension -> regulates social interactions and conflicts. Ex: whether to cheat on a test or not. Ex: whether they resist the temptation to cheat. Ex: do they feel guilty enough to resist. Ex: do they have a moral character so strong to resist temptation to cheat. Ex: social conventional -> cutting in line or speaking out of turn. Ex: moral domain -> lying, stealing, harming another person. Children go through 2 distinct stages separated by transition period. Children think of justice and rules as unchangeable properties of the world, removed from the control of people. If rule is broken, punishment will be dealt out immediately. Show some moral reasoning from stage 1 and stage 2. Children become aware that rules and laws are created by people.
