In 2011 only 51% of adults were married- this is very low married : 1. Increased acceptance of cohabitation: cohabitation- living together in a sexually intimate relationship without legal bonds of marriage, 3. Transitions in gender roles: we don"t really view women as homemakers and men as bread winners anymore, there are lots of women in the work force, 5. Increased voluntary childlessness: a lot of married couples are choosing to not have children, 6. Monogamy and polygamy: monogamy- the practice of having only one spouse at a time. Age: age at which you marry relates to marital success, marrying young has higher divorce rates, people who marry later perhaps have more carefully selected their mate, 3.
