A final consideration when attempting to define abnormal behaviour is whether that behaviour causes distress or dysfunction for the individual or others. Frequency of the behaviour can lead to 2 other conditions: distress and disfunction. Maladaptive behaviours can result in distress, further affecting social functioning, leading to social dysfunction.
