Although often unrecognized, psychological disorders exist in substantial numbers of people across all ages, races, ethnic groups, and cultures, and in both sexes. Abnormal behaviour must always be considered in context. Being different individuals possessing abilities that distinguish them from the general public. Abnormalities (unusual abilities) are not always negative; rather, some result in positive contributions to society i. e. steven hawking, celine dion, etc. Being different is not the same as being psychologically abnormal. As a child matures (physically, mentally, and emotionally), behaviours previously considered developmentally appropriate and therefore normal, can become abnormal. Behaviour that may violate societal norms, but it is not always negative or harmful to others. Dangerous behaviour can result from intense emotional states and may be directed outwardly (toward another person or an inanimate object: may be directed toward oneself though (i. e. suicidal behaviour) Most people with psychological disorders do not engage in dangerous behaviour.
