Drives: states of internal tension that motivate an organism to behave in ways to reduce that tension. Incentives: external stimulu the pull an organism to a goal. Performing an activity to get an award or avoid punishment. Performing an activity for your own sake/ pleasure. Over-justification hypothesis: rewarding activities that people are intrinsically motivated to do, will make them like it less. Psychodynamic (frued): struggle between conscious and unconscious influence motivation. Humanistic (maslow) : strive for personal growth is what motivates. Growth needs: uniquely human and motivate us to develop our potential.
