Chapter 17: psychological theories: psychodynamic, psychoanalysis (s. freud) Intensive, long lasting: goal: analyst help patient to bring ideas from unconscious mind to conscious, achieve conscious awareness of "repressed memories" and unresolved conflicts. Say something and you say first thing that pops into mind: resistance. Start showing resistance to certain issues: more resistant, probably more important the issue is: transference, transfer of emotions towards analyst, dream interpretation. Insight therapy: become more aware of inner feelings and desires, helping you gain insight on how and why you think the way you do, client-centered therapy (rogers) "empty chair" technique: goal: client responsibility for their own thoughts, feelings and behaviours, cognitive, seek to identify maladaptive ways of thinking and replace these with adaptive ways. If something can be learned it can be unlearned: behaviour is result of identifying s-r-c connection.
