Document Summary
Genetics is not a simple blend of parental characteristics. Phenotype (observable characteristics due to genotype; may be affected by environment) Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, aka 46 individual chromosomes in each cell. Gene"s main purpose is to code for proteins. Dominant genes will always be displayed in phenotype. Recessive genes are only expressed if paired with another recessive gene. Polygenic transmission is when gene pairs have a combined in uence on a single phenotypic traint; a single trait is controlled by 2+ alleles. Recombinant dnas are formed by cutting desired dna into pieces, and combine it with another organism"s dna (commonly bacterium) Can be used to create human growth hormone. Methods of inserting genetic material may cause neurons to change their genetic structure. Gene knockout is to alter a speci c gene so that its normal function is disrupted/ eliminated.
