(cid:863) In canadian politics, the federal leader is of course the prime minister, while provincial and territorial leaders are known as premiers. First minister is the overall term for the head of federal, provincial and territorial government in canada. The prime minister and premiers are together commonly known as first ministers. First ministers then appoint a cabinet of ministers who are responsible for various government departments and issue areas. First minister and cabinet are referred to the executive. Parliament actually has three separate components: the house of commons, the senate, governor general. Crown is represented in the provinces by a lieutenant governor and in the territories by a commissioner. United states have a system of separation of powers, in which the president and his cabinet do not sit in the legislative body of congress.
