Physiology 3140A Chapter Notes -Synaptic Plasticity, Chemical Synapse, Dentate Gyrus
Document Summary
Synaptic plasticity: plastic = changeable, synaptic plasticity, change in synaptic strength, occurs during development of the brain & during learning & memory, relates to amplitude of epsp or ipsp, short-term, ex. remembering a phone , 1st stimulation epsp. 2nd stimulation (same intensity as 1st) 2nd response is larger. Pair-pulse facilitation (ppf: 1st stimulation ipsp. 2nd stimulation (same intensity as 1st) 2nd response is smaller. Pair-pulse inhibition/depression (ppi/d: readily-releasable pool of synaptic vesicles at the presynaptic terminal varies with different synapses & following previous stimulation. [ca2+] at presynaptic terminal is critical for vesicle releasing of neurotransmitter. Low probability synapse: each presynaptic ap only releases a small proportion of ready-releasable pool. Stimulation electrode on on schafer collateral pathways (stimulate presynaptic fibres) Most works are focused on ampa component of epsp. Lfs inhibition of synaptic strength much weaker at the beginning & gradually increases (70-75%)
