Nursing 2220A/B Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Focus Group, Natural Disaster, Norm (Social)
Document Summary
Using focus groups for program planning and evaluation. A health program may be defined as any educational activity designed to inform and teach children about health-related topics with th goal of affecting their behaviour: ex. Lesson plans on natural disaster preparedness; self-guided modules about healthy eating; etc. School children are able to provide vital information about their learning preferences and their level of understanding about the content being presented. Focus groups allows children to communicate what works for them and what does not. This is an effective way for school nurses who are planning new programs to gain access to and capitalize on this information. Focus groups may be defines as thoughtful, planned discussions among participants with similar experiences that allow the moderator to obtain the individuals cognitive and emotions perceptions. Key feature of focus groups is that they encourage interaction among the children. Specifically, is to create dialogue among children about a specific subject.
