It is concluded that the belief system and attachment ot place developed through the religious socialization of these rural oom women have created a presumed sanctified space protected from the health effects of a highly contaminated environment. They refer to this phenomena as belief-informed place effects . Marginalized ethnic groups who are set apart from contemporary canadian society pose a challenge to nurses, midwives and other hcps. Challenges can be more in rural areas with a long history of industrial environmental pollutions. This article examines understandings of health among women form an old order.
