Attitude: a lasting, general evaluation of people (including oneself), objects, or issues. Anything towards which a person has an attitude is called an attitude object. Learned and tend to persist over time. Help determine a number of preferences and actions. A positive attitude is generally a necessary, but not sufficient, condition for purchase. General ( it applies to more than one momentary event) Lasting ( it tends to endure over time) Attitudes exist because they serve some function for the person. They are determined by a persons motive. Consumers who expect that they will need to deal with similar information in a future event at a future time will be more likely to start forming attitudes in anticipation of this event. An attitude can serve more than one function but primarily one is dominant. By identifying which one is dominant, marketers can target consumers.
