Not enough to have talented employee who perform jobs well. Need to be able to retain employees for long periods of time to benefit. Most immediate cause of all forms of withdrawal behaviour is level of commitment felt by employee. Organizational commitment: an employee"s desire to remain member of organization. Influences whether employees stays member of organization (retained) or leaves to pursue other jobs (turns over) Withdrawal behaviour: employee actions that are intended to avoid work situations: high organizational commitment = low withdrawal behaviour, low organizational commitment = high withdrawal behaviour. 3 forms combine to create overall sense of psychological attachment: people place various weights on these 3 components, importance may vary over course of career. Organizational commitment depends on more than just organization managers, co-workers, etc : employees committed to top management, departments, focus of commitment: people, places, and things that inspire.
