Long-term care refers to the continuum of care that includes medical and non-medical support. Older adults and people of all ages need long-term care we know very little about the needs of young adults in long-term care because practices are developed around older adults. This percentage increases as age increases, which is consistent w/ the difference in life expectancy b/w men and women resulting in residents primarily being women. Long-term care is not covered by the canada health act, while provinces are responsible for providing long-term care however veterans affairs canada is the only exception for veterans and their spouses. The three types of ownership involves public government not-for-profit ownership, private not-for-profit ownership & private for-profit ownership which vary across canada. Residents who live in long-term care homes are required to pay out of pocket, while the minimum fee is and maximum fee is additional costs also come from care needs and prescription drugs.
