The scientists learnt that even a slow category 3 storm would flood new orleans. The simulation showed that new orleans would be devastated. Improving due to a greater atmospheric dynamics, satellite sensing, and hurricane hunters (people in aircrafts with various instruments to forecast hurricanes). New orleans has 2 types of levees, concrete and natural built. The levees dried out the wetlands by blocking the wetlands from being soaked from storm surges. The disappearing of the wetlands increased the vulnerability by getting rid of the natural environment that helps protect. The workers repaired the breaches in the levees by dropping sandbags to reinforce the wall. Floodwalls failure could have been prevented if the pilings were place in deeper. Much of the area is below sea level. Bring sediments in to raise the ground so it is no longer a bowl. Restore the wetlands so it can reduce the winds and storms.
