The paralympic games have had the most significant effect on the ideology of sport and disability through accelerating inclusion and promoting a barrier-free environment. Primarily, they have raised the status of disabled sport where participants can become esteemed athletes without being succumbed to assumptions about their disability. This article examines how the paralympics have developed and reflects the transformation that has occurred in disability sport.
