Document Summary

Chasing normal : my summers at camp for disablesd kids. One of the first things that they learned was to ignore the dead frogs - and that they wouldn"t feel them under their wheelchair tires. At the age of 7, they"d never been around so many people w/ wheelchairs before - and they all had muscular dystrophy. They went to camp walk n" roll one week every august for 12 years. The goal of the staff was for them to have a normal experience and say mee too when they went back to school. No camp activity wasn"t adaptable - however, once she got older and the counselors couldn"t support her to sit up and ride horses, she refused to ride and never did again. She eventually skipped archery for a similar reason - most counselors would follow them around wherever they felt like going.
