Anthro 4400 summary on part one: this hard land in the land of open graves. By calling them illegals people dehumanize them and dont care. The bodies recovered in the desert have already begun to erase that person as a human. The desert is the perfect place for these corpses to rot while no one cares. It could not happen in the context of towns, in the cities, a mcdonalds parking lot etc. The prevention through deterrence (ptd) strategy purposely pushes migrants to the deserts where they will be killed silently. Things really changed in 1993; before this police tactics were to apprehend illegal crossers after they had crossed. The introduction of operation blockade implemented by silvestre reyes put 400 cops in green and white uniforms petrolling the borders. This only made border crossing harder to see as they moved away to less populated areas to try and cross.
