Circadian rhythm- cyclical changes that occur on a roughly 24hr basis in many of our biological processes (ex. hormone release, brain waves, body temp and drowsiness) The result of a disruption of circadian rhythm is jet lag. Biological clock - term for the suprachiasmatic nucleus (scn) in the hypothalamus that"s responsible for controlling our levels of alertness. In 1951, a discovery in nathaniel kleitman"s sleep lab. Eugene aserinsky, kleitman"s grad student, monitored his son"s eye movements and brain waves while he slept.
