11: con ict interpersonal con ict: occurs when one"s wishes or actions actually obstruct or impede those of someone else. Is inevitable in close relationships, & the more interdependent partners are, the more likely occasional con ict becomes. Does not necessarily involve anger or hostility, & is not always overt. Partners experience con ict quite frequently, though various factors are correlated with the amount of con ict we encounter: personality those high in neuroticism have more disagreements than those high in agreeableness. When con ict does occur, those high in agreeableness react more constructively: attachment style secure people encounter less con ict & manage it better when it does occur compared to insecure people. Secure people experience milder physiological responses to con ict, are calmer, more collaborative & optimistic when it does arise, & return to a positive state sooner.
