PSYC 338 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4, 6, 13, 14: Reinforcement, Verbal Behavior, Nociceptor
Document Summary
Reinforcement, punishment & extinction: reinforcer: events that increase a response when they are introduced or added immediately following a response. If all criteria are met, then: reinforcer the consequential stimulus, reinforcement (operation) presenting/removing the reinforcer contingent on the response, reinforcement (process) change in responding that is the result of the reinforcement operation. Operant extinction: if a response has been increased in frequency through reinforcement, then completely ceasing this reinforcement will cause the behaviour to decrease in frequency. Ensure you are not reinforcing a product of behaviour (ii) selecting the reinforcement different reinforcements are more effective for different individuals. Effectiveness of a reinforce can change over time. A certain stimuli may reinforce some responses but not others. Some reinforcers may not even appear to feel good . Want to take advantage of natural establishing operations. Deprivation: time during which the individual does not experience the reinforcer (b) abolishing: antecedent event that makes a reinforcer less potent.
