Effects are in uenced on how it is ingested. Drugs used intravenously are have the most powerful effect & are most likely to become addicted to. Common types include: the poppy (ex. heroin, morphine, & codeine) immediate effects: alleviation of physical pain, anxiety & tension, relaxation & pleasant reverie, euphoric spasm. Bind to opiate receptors heroin plugs into receptors & replaces natural endorphins. Dopamine theory is a dysfunction of the dopamine reward pathway.
