Despite canada being one of the wealthiest countries in the world many of its citizens especially children, people with disabilities single mothers are unable to escape the effects of impoverishment. In march 2008 over 700,000 canadians used a food bank at least once and one-third of these food banks found it difficult meeting service for these demands. Clients range from seniors to students and 1 out of 4 of these clients is a child. Half of food bank users rely on social assistance, underscoring the inability of welfare programs to meet numerous families" basic requirements. Polls suggest that as many as half of canadians fear they would fall into poverty if they missed one or two paychecks.
