But most people join an association bc they know someone who got them interested in the association. In metropolitan areas, there is a high concentration of minorities- thus working class, labour unions, professional groups and business groups are less toerant: learning hypothesis. Incorporate component of contact and competition hypothesis together: learn about minorities more tolerance. In competition, learn about minorities as threats, resulting in learning how intolerable they are due to their negative characteristics.
