In many ethnic cultures boys are valued above girls. Canadian women are more likely than men to graduate from university. The difference between sex roles and gender roles. Females on average are physically smaller and weaker and also vulnerable while pregnant therefore possibly requiring protection. Sex is the biological characteristics that deinfe a person as male or female. Gender is the social expectations of behaviour and appearance that we identity with being masculine or feminine. Gender is a product of social construction. The idea that the social world consists of a number of shared understandings - about what is means to be male or female or rich or poor- that humans have reached and reinforced over time. Sexism is the perceived superiority of one sex over the other. Young women may face the struggle of choosing a career or a family while men dont. Sexualization of women in the media etc. Gender is derived from the narrative of patriarchy.
