Political sociology concerned with relations between state and society. Attention towards the social circumstances of politics, treats that arena as intimately related to all social institutions(orum) Political sociologist have concerned themselves principally with the ways in which society has affected state. Political sociology has shifted away from this focus on how society affects state. (economic, political, cultural globalization means that what the state is, does is) Political sociology away from from state-centered, class based models of political participation or non-participation, toward an understanding of politics as a potentially of all social experiences. Marx concered primarily as he was with capitalism as a mode of production, concentrated on the economic level, tentative views on the state. Dunleavy and o"leary"s classification of marx"s analysis(which is also on the lecture"s slides) Antonio gramsci first marxist to theorize the ideological & political superstructures as relatively autonomous of the economic base.
