Collective behaviour: voluntary, often spontaneous activity that"s engaged in by a large number of people and typically violates dominant-group norms and values. Lacks official division of labour, hierarchy of authority, and established rules & procedures. Types of crowd behaviour: casual and conventional. Casual crowds are large gatherings of people who happen to be in the same place at the same time (ex: people in malls) Conventional crowds people who come together for a scheduled event and share a common focus: expressive and acting crowds. Expressive crowds provide opportunities for expression of strong emotion, such as joy or grief (ex: mourners lining the streets) Acting crowds are focused on specific purpose or object that they may erupt into violent behaviour (ex: mobs)
