Concrete groups = organizations for specific purposes: ex. family, tribe, sect, union of people through naturally developed or consciously willed ties. Community a group that exists by members having concrete knowledge of each other: ceases to exits as a unit once physical proximity is destroyed. A generation is not a concrete group. Class position = common location individuals hold in the economic and power structure of a given society. People are what they are because they are constantly aware of the nature of their specific location in the social structure: from the pressure or possibilities of gain resulting from their position. Possible to abandon class position through individual or collective rise or fall in social scale: may be due to personal merit, effort, social upheaval, or chance. Previous class position loses relevance for us as soon as we acquire a new position due to change in economic and power status.
