PSY336H1 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Demand Characteristics, Statistical Power, Sequent
Document Summary
Used the performance based frequency of autobiographical memory task: sad and happy films are utilized to induce sad and happy moods, and then participants are asked to quickly recall as many opposite mood memories as possible, involves two dependent measures, recall time for the first opposite mood memory. Hypothesis: if mindfulness meditation promotes de creased emotional engagement and reactivity meditators would be quicker to generate the first opposite mood memory than matched non meditators, predicted to exhibit fluent recollection and generate more mood incongruent memories. Reasons for this: may be because self report measures are prone to demand characteristics, mindfulness meditation influences one"s conscious access to emotional experiences, thereby creating a situation in which similar self reports may reflect different emotional experiences in meditators compared to non meditators, related to metacognitive awareness which alters one"s relation to the emotion and the subjective experience of it thus differentially affecting the explicit self reported mood measure between meditators and non meditators.
