PSY321H1 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Inferior Parietal Lobule, Hyperbolic Geometry, Richard Shweder
Document Summary
We rely on culture more than any other species and this has allowed is to succeed in such diverse environments. Much of a person"s life can be predicted just by knowing their culture. People from different cultures differ in their psychology. People around the world are constrained by the same unique human brain. Culture in this book means two things: it is a particular type of information. Any information that is acquired from other members of one"s own species through social learning that is capable of affecting an individual"s behaviours: to indicate a particular group of people. People existing within some sort of shared context. May even include individuals from a wide number of countries e. g. western countries. Problems with thinking about groups of people as a continual culture: the boundaries of culture are not always clear cut. Way to deal with this is to look at nationality, even though we know it isn"t exactly separate.
