Generalization: the transfer of past learning to new situations and problems: there is a need to find an appropriate balance between. Specificity deciding how narrowly a rule applies. Characteristic of generalization gradient is that they decline rapidly on either side of the peak. Roger shepard cognitive psychologist this feature of generalization gradients is one of the most constant basic laws of psychology. Pigeon is not confused about stimulus, but shows that it expects, based on learning from stimulus is that there is a chance of yielding an outcome with the similar" stimulus.
