Document Summary

The binges are followed by attempts to compensate by either vomiting, laxative, hyper exercising, or starvation. The dsm-v includes binge-eating disorder, or bed: binge-eating without the attempt to compensate by vomiting, etc. Individuals with anorexia have an intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat. This fear is paradoxical considering they are in fact underweight. They maintain their low body weight through food restriction and / or exercise: however, others may engage in purging, where they attempt to vomit, use laxative, etc. This can be body as a whole or indiv parts such as hips, legs. They will create an obsession with measuring these body parts such as measuring or weighing: bulimia nervosa: has the same features as anorexia nervosa, one important di erence is that they are usually in the normal weight range. This may make it harder for families to detect the problem.
