There seems to be 3 types of people, the doormats, that hostile, and the withdrawn/detached. The neurotic personality is governed by some of the 10 need/trends. Each trend is directed towards interpersonal control and coping. The trends are disproportionate in intensity, indiscriminate in application to all other persons, evidence of an extreme disregard for reality, and show a tendency to provoke intense anxiety when they remain unsatisfied. The neurotic need for affection and approval. The neurotic need for a partner" who will take over one"s life. The neurotic need to restrict one"s life within narrow borders. (be contented with little). The neurotic need for power, for control over others, and for a fa ade of omnipotence. The neurotic need to exploit others and get the better of them. The neurotic need for social recognition and prestige. The neurotic need for self-sufficiency and independence. The neurotic need for perfection and unassailability.
