Document Summary

Psy202: chapter 19 choosing the right method. 3 categories of 3 basic categories: single group of participants with 1 score per participants. Used to describe variables that exist naturally. Study can measure multiple variables but do not compare them to one another. For look at natural relationships: single group of participants with 2 or more variables measured for each participant. For comparing variables for a specific relationship. Pearson correlation for direction of linear relationship between 2 variables. Linear regression is the equation for the straight line that gives the best fit to the data points (predicted y when given an x) Analysis of regression tells us the significance of the regression equation. Spearman correlation is for vairables on ordinal scales. Partial correlation for relationship between 2 variables while controlling the third variable (df = n-3) Multiple regression determines the linear equation that gives the best fit to the data points.
