Document Summary

Social cognitive psychology: fusion between social situations and cognition, study how they influence one another. 2 processes: explicit: correspond roughly to conscious thought, deliberative, effortful, slowish, generally under intentional control, implicit: unconscious, intuitive, automatic, effortless, fast. Larger set of patterns that govern how our mind generally functions. Dual-process models: models of behaviour that account for both implicit and explicit processes: bias us to help process information efficienty, when faulty, difficult to protect against. Person perception: process by which individuals categorize and form judgments about others. First impressions rely on implicit processes and schemas. Thin slices of behaviour: very small samples of patterns shaping judgments fast and accurately (instantaneously; important process) Self-fulfilling processes: occur when a first impression/expectation affects ones behaviour and then those effect other"s behaviours leading one to conform to initial impression or expectation. The self is a schema, 2 consequences: we think that the way we are is the way people should be, can cause us vs. them.
