Prosopagnosia: disorder where one has difficulty recognizing faces. Concept: mental representation of an object, event or idea. Categories: clusters of interrelated concepts i. e. furniture, drinks, farm animals. Classical category (1 of 2 ways of arranging information) Theory that claims objects are categorized according to specific set of features. Triangles have 3 sides and 180 degrees ; everything that has those properties are a triangle. Definitions are a way in defining the specific features of the set. Graded membership: observation that some concepts appear to make better category members than others. Sentence-verification technique: how fast respondents answer the question with yes or no. Choice and reaction time are measured as a behavioural measure. Prototypes (1 of 2 way of arranging information) Prototypes: mental representations of an average category members. We imagine people to have 2 arms, 2 feet with a head. Main advantage is that prototypes explain why some category members are better.
