For psychological disorders, you need to understand all the pillars of psychology holistic understanding you are limited if you only focus on one thing. Stereotypes: cognitive schemas that allow for easy, fast processing of information about people based on their membership in a group or social category. Beliefs about people in a particular group; characteristics they have, behaviours we think are characteristic of them, things we think they"re good at, sports they tend to play, etc. Not always negative you might even expect good things of a group of people. Stereotypes are always overgeneralizations they simply can"t apply to every group member. Stereotypes are usually exaggerations, even if they may hold some truth sometimes. Stigma: when someone views you in a negative way because you have a distinguishing characteristic/trait that"s thought to be (or is) a disadvantage.
