Brainstem: basic life support breathing, beating of the heart. Glial cells: cells that give the brain structure, 3 types of glial cells astrocytes cells, oligodendrocytes cells, schwann cells. Limbic system: internal body regulation asks if this thing is food, a threat, a target of amorous desires, or if it is different from anything the body has seen before. Nothing will become conscious unless the limbic system recognizes it. Motor neuron: carry outgoing information from the cns to muscles and glands. Peripheral nervous system: the sensory and motor neurons that connect the central nervous system (cns) to the rest of the body. Sensory neuron: carry incoming information from the sense receptors to the cns. It increases the level of neurotransmitters in synapse. (increase of serotonin) Malfunctions: excess dopamine receptor activity linked to schizophrenia. Starved of dopamine, the brain produces the tremors and decreased mobility of parkinson"s disease. Malfunctions: undersupply inked to depression; prozac and some other antidepressant drugs raise serotonin levels.
