Studying developmental in the same people over time through longitudinal research designs can provide unique information about developmental processes and how experiences in infancy and early childhood may have lasting influence on behaviour. Cross-sectional research- used for examining age-related change but not development within the same person over time. Eggs are produced from the ovulation: egg travels through fallopian tube to the uterus. As cell divides, it hollows out in the center (blastocyst) Monozygotic- when eggs divide into two zygotes have the same genetic information. Dizygotic- when two eggs are released during the process of ovulation. Period of fetus- (9th week of gestation until birth)- characterized by refinements and finishing touches as well as significant growth. A pregnant woman needs to watch her general health, the food she eats and the environmental agents to which she is exposed (can impact the developing organism)
