Document Summary
Module 3. 1: genetic and evolutionary perspectives on behaviour. Examines how biological factors (neurotransmitters, hormones, brain regions, etc. ) contribute to thought, feelings, and behaviour. Evolutionary psychologists like dr. haselton are building evidence to argue that how we dress and how we send many other signals can be explained by evolutionary principles. For example, females dress more attractively during the menstrual cycle while male"s body build; both do so in order to attract mates. All of the available evidence suggests that nature and nurture lie along a continuum, with some traits subject to greater influence from genetics (nature) while others are more environ-mentally based (nurture) Nature and nurture are inextricably entwined: impossible to separate genetic influences from environmental influences, they can work together to determine human behavior. Research has made it clear that behaviours are influenced by genes just as physical characteristics are. Genetics has an influence on the brain and changes in brain functions can lead to changes in behavior.
