Document Summary

Needs associated with basic physiological needs are more important than social or achievement needs. After physiological needs are met, then we can focus on our other needs like our self esteem. Humans have a fundamental need to belong. Need to belong: aka affiliation motivation, is the motivation to maintain relationships which involve pleasant feelings such as warmth, affection, appreciation for each person"s well-being. It"s as fundamental as survival needs like water and food. Sense of permanence; maintaining conversations with a few really close ppl rather than having conversations with many ppl is more satisfying and significant: also makes them more satisfied with their sense of belonging. Loneliness has effect on actual health; has been linked to heart disease and cancer, hypertension, weaker immune system and high levels of stress hormones. Compassionate love: affection we feel when our lives are intertwined with another person"s: greater influence on long term stability of a relationship than passionate love.
