Document Summary
Nature (genetics) influence brain via development & experience vs nurture (environmentally based) Genes: basic units of heredity; guide process of creating proteins that make up physical structures & regulate development & physiological processes throughout lifespan specify which types of molecules a cell should produce & when to produce them. Dna (deoxyribonucleic acid): molecule formed in a double-helix shape that contains four nucleotides: adenine, cytosine, guanine, thymine (acgt) Genotype: genetic makeup of an organism; unique set of genes that comprise that individual"s genetic code create protein. Phenotype: physical traits/ behavioral characteristics that show genetic variation (both genes & environment affect) e. g. eye colour, shape & size of facial features, personality different nucleotide sequencing. Chromosome: structures in cellular nucleus that are lined with all of the genes an individual inherits (20000- 25000 genes; 23 pairs of chromosomes: half from mum & half from dad) Trisomy: extra chromosome alter genetic make-up & phenotype.
