We"re going to be discussing supplements, which are considered natural health. This means; vitamins and minerals, amino acids and essential fatty acids are all considered natural health products, and so are herbal remedies, traditional medicines and homeopathic medicines. The regulation of natural health products in canada is done by an office called natural and non-prescription health products directorate. Canadians have access to health products that are effective, safe and high quality; while respecting freedom of choice and philosophical and cultural diversity. There is a balance trying to be achieved between: tradition: There are some natural health products that have traditional uses, but there may not be a lot of scientific evidence supporting its use: scientific evidence: If it doesn"t have a traditional use, scientific evidence to support its safety & effectiveness is required. *however, the standard for effectiveness is quite low for government approval.
