Document Summary

Las casas: a short account of the destruction of the indies. Claims that a king must solve issues in their kingdom once they hear about it. Described issues in the americas as evil. The new world was entrusted to the spanish crown by god so it could be properly ruled, governed, and converted to the faith. You couldn"t possibly have heard what i am about to tell you, or else you"d have xed it already. Not ambitious or greedy, don"t want worldly power. The spaniards murder them, torment them, persecute them. The people who travel there pretend to be christians. *liable to succumb to any illness, no matter how mild. They wage an unjust war on the natives. Kill anyone who shows resistance - suppress the native leaders. Very disturbing account of what europeans did to the natives. 5 main kingdoms on the island of hispaniola. Argues that they didn"t do anything to deserve their treatment.
